Lipstick (Color is Brick Red) // Nail Polish (Color is Runaway for the Money)
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! Alex and I had such a good time in New York City this past weekend, between getting coffee with my college roommate Risa, exploring Mid-Town, having dinner in the theater district, seeing Something Rotten on Broadway (which was hilarious btw), and getting brunch at Birds & Bubbles in Chinatown we packed a lot in. Luckily for us, it only takes about 2 hours door to door to get from our apartment to NYC via New Jersey Transit, so we try and go a couple times a year. I plan on going back before Christmas to see the holiday decorations, shop, and eat (of course) with Risa and I can't wait!
We snapped these pictures in Chinatown while hanging out before our brunch reservation at Birds & Bubbles, which by the way is amazing. It is nestled away below street level in a narrow little restaurant. It has a cool, clean vibe and they specialize in two things: fried chicken and champagne. Also known as two of my favorite things. I could probably eat just these two things the rest of my life. Alex's dish was a take on chicken and waffles which involved frying the chicken in waffle batter and dipping them in syrup. YUM. The champagne was great too, they had special brunch cocktails with champagne infused with homemade sodas. I tried the strawberry and the orange flavors. If you're in the city and looking for a fun little brunch spot I highly recommend!
Anyways, about this look. Well, first of all it was 50 degrees when we shot these pictures (the entire shoot took about 5 minutes) so I was a little chilly, but I wanted to show off the all-black ensemble I had put together. Black on black is hands down on of the easiest ways to look chic without trying. I mean, I am literally wearing jeans and a t-shirt but I don't look like a slob. Also, it's slimming so that never hurts (especially when you're about to chow down on fried chicken).
I brought my new Claire V. clutch on our trip and it was just perfect. It's so chic and classic that it pretty much classes up any outfit. It was a bit of a splurge, but I got it for 25% off in the Shopbop sale and I'm so happy I took the plunge. There's also a bigger fold-over version if you prefer that look.
One last thing to note, these Madewell jeans are sooo comfy. They have just the right amount of stretch, but don't stretch out too much with wear. Also, they come in 'tall' and 'taller' inseams. That's right, fellow tall girls these have 35" inseams. I am wearing the "taller" length and they are the longest inseam jeans I own. I usually get inseams between 33"-34", but these hit a little lower on my ankle where they're on the boarder of "almost too long" which I did not know was possible. Madewell makes this length on a lot of their denim so I highly suggest checking it out.
I have two more looks from our NYC trip coming up this week (they were quick shoots because I didn't want to torture Alex the whole trip, but be on the lookout for those!)
How was your weekend? What do you think of black on black?

A leopard clutch is definitely worth the splurge. That Clare V. piece is already a classic. You'll have it for years!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to NYC and we were actually thinking about booking a trip for December to see the holiday lights. (We usually head to Chicago annually for that, since it's only about two hours from us.)

I love Chicago too, but I've never been at Christmas, I usually go in summer or September for work! You have to check out NYC at Christmas one time, it's magical, you won't regret going! I'm so happy I got this clutch, I already know it's going to be very low cost per wear :)
DeleteI love this look, especially the pops of color you incorporated! I think black on black is the perfect go to for basically any brunch/lunch/casual dinner. Glad you had fun in NYC!

Thanks Darcy :)
DeleteAren't Madewell jeans the absolute best??! Being 5'9", I absolutely live in mine - great length and the perfect stretch!
ReplyDeleteI am 6 foot so I swear by them, us tall girls need jeans that don't make us look like we're going through an awkward growth spurt haha. I agree, they have the perfect amount of stretch :)
DeleteI love that you're a black on black fan too! You definitely rock it Laura, especially with the red lip and cheetah print clutch. I love wearing black on black but also have to find some balance with accessories since my hair is black too!
ReplyDeleteI can see that, I think the blonde hair helps lighten up the look, but I'm sure it looks totally chic with black hair as well! And nothing is better than a good red lip :)
Deletelove your clutch! so perfect with the all black look!
